Update May 2007
Hi, I'm Owen Beresford. I wrote this website as a side project. Although this site has been under discussion for ages it hasn't been published until now. I have recently graduated (with an MSc from a local university), and am trying to strengthen my non academic aspects. This site is part of my portfolio.
On this site, I have done the information management, the versioning and the technical design and authoring. Since this site has a highly specialised niche, the content was best written by the people closest to it, i.e. the barn farm themselves. I did do the photography and therefore the graphical editing. On the graphics side, I also did letterheads and some promotional material. I project that the main readers are likely to late-middle-aged keen gardening enthusiasts and school children. Since neither of these groups are likely to upgrade their PCs very often (particularly the school machines), a low technological base was required. The website should be fully compatible with any machine put together after 1998 (assuming new components and software). Given that I can't get a harddisk to last more than two years, I don't think this unreasonable. With older machines, there may be a few hoops to jump through. I hope that people with Disabilities and the elderly will have pleasure in reading and viewing the Barn Farm.
People with slow Internet connections may wish to avoid the pages with lots of pictures (in particular the photo galleries).
